made the fastest heart operation - withing 13 minutes
It’s happened on the base of Southern Regional Research Center of Cardiovascular Surgery where performed the fastest heart surgery – into 13 minutes.
According to the director of the Center Kaldarbek Abdramanov, the patient, 52-year old woman, after record’s surgery woke up in anesthesia and felt herself well, recovering quickly.
“Such operations are carried out once or twice in a week, but we never did it so fast. When I was working in Bishkek, heading the central Clinic of Cardio surgery, I am also once had managed to carry out the operation for 15 minutes, but that was much more simple surgery involvement compare with the last case when we have deal with the double, even triple “harm of heart” – when were need to do the compex taska - repairing a valve and remove thrombus”.
Why it needs to rush and keep the time during such surgery?
All explained by the extremely critical condition of conducting such surgery, when harmed heart stopped completely with the help of special solution and isolated from the body, all large vessels and the aorta are clamped. The organism feeds with the blood moved through a special heart-lung machine. The solution renewed after every 20 minutes.
"In that time span, you need to remove a blood clot, change the valve, until heart not going to awake. For the reason that if we not finished the task, heart begins to beat, and it needs again to stop it using a new portion of solution for the next 20 minute interval, when body engine not worked. But repetition this act as well as the prolonging time of heart switching off going to down of survival capacity of patient. In theory, we might stop heart for 1 and 2 and even 3 hours but with any prolonging we have smaller chance to revive heart back again.
That’s why we are trying to finish the operation quickly, during its first pit-stop. It requires a well-coordinated work of the team, surgeons and assistants: transfusion, anesthesiologists.
Smaller the time of heart arrest, less the risk of life-threatening complications and easier conduct care for patient in the postoperative period.
In the world practice such works carried out for 30 minutes - and it is considered as a good result" .
