Мэй (как и Дикон) менее всего годился на роль rock-n-roll star. Интроверт. Физик и астроном. Вовсе не шоумэн, как Фредди и Роджер - эдакий британец научного склада ума, почитывающий умную прессу на гастролях. Ему бы творить чертежи в лаборатории, а если и заниматься музыкой - то классической, ей-богу :)
Энциклопедии пишут, что "успех Queen заставил Брайна прервать научную карьеру" (он уже имел пару публикаций). Чепуха, Уотсон - чепуха :) Ведь первую гитару он смастерил с отцом в 7 лет - из цельной доски дуба, спиленной с камина XVIII века, деталей от старого мотоцикла и перламутровых пуговиц. (Денег на Fender Stratocaster не было). Этот уникальный инструмент стал творением Страдивари ХХ века и звучал на квиновских альбомах. Впрочем, зачем я вновь пересказываю столь каноничную историю...
Когда художника узнают по одному мазку, писателя - по абзацу, а гитариста - после пары секунд, это не ограниченность, а настоящий дар. Таких в мире - единицы. Хендрикс. Ричардс. Сантана. Пейдж. Блэкмор. Клэптон. Нопфлер. Харрисон. В этом клубе небожителей совсем немного имён. Но - вполне достаточно, чтобы скрасить и преобразить наши сизифовы будни.
В 1973-м, на дебютном альбоме Queen, Брайн взял первый аккорд роскошной Keep Yourself Alive. Услышь я это именно тогда - понял бы мгновенно. Что статус "легенд" - лишь вопрос времени. А пока начинается самое интересное: путешествие длиной почти в 20 лет.
