Review of the manuscrift by Professor Sergei Rosen: "Experience 0f Elaboration of National Nomenclature of Bacteria and Compilation on Bactobiota".

In order to communicate about organisms it is essential to know what they are and where they occur. The name of an organism is the key for this basis. All the rules for the universal and stabile system of names of biologic organisms are contained in the Intern ational Codes of Biological Nomenclature. A number of different codes exists for different grups of organisms.
The International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria is is the least worked out. The most complicated problems involve species and inraspectic taxa. The rangs like morphovar, phagovar, serovar, morphotype, phagotype, serotype and used extensively.
The literature on bacterial nomenclature is not extensive. The reviewed manuscript of Prof. S. Rosen, to some extent, enriches knowledge on bacterial nomenclature. The author popularizes International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria. He has made a thorough work on etymology of thousands of species of bacteria.
Based on the analysis of Russian names of bacteria, the author proves the possibility and nessesity of working out a national nomenclature of bacteria.
Prof. S.Rosen has shown a way of studying of diversity of bacteria i the 21 st century. Unique data on diversity of lactic acid bacteria in the last hundred years is colected in the manuscript. Only with regads to Russia, data on more then 50,000 strains of lactic acid bacteria are collected and analysed.
The author demonstrates the importance of accumulations of regional dara on diversity of bacteria for improving the "Bergey's Manual" and International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria.
I feel that manuscrift of Prof. S. Rosen is ready for publication in its presen form. Howers I'd like to make some critical cimments/ In my opinion,it is impossible to use the term flora" foir bacteria. The manuscrioft coold be enriched by including an index of the Latin names.The English should alse be edited.
Prof S.Rosen is a word wide specialist on systematics, nomenclature, diversity of bacteria, and the author of 460 brochures, 13 among them.
The reviewed manuscrift "Experience of Elaboration of National Nomenclature of Bacteria and Compilation on Bactobiota" has great sciencific value and, in my opinion, should be published.
