Today, I’m going to reflect upon one of the questions which I set up in a previous note. Why do we need philosophy? To begin with, let’s figure out what the word “we” means here. Since I’m going to discuss these questions with X, I can narrow the “we” to him and myself. Yet, it seems it’s better to start with “I” rather than “we” because I can’t say why X needs philosophy without asking him. Oops, half of the page is already filled. I haven’t even started thinking yet. Okay. I need philosophy and this club where I can talk about it with others, to exercise my power. Yep, it’s like a dumbbell to my mind. It also provides an opportunity for gathering up some unusual people. Besides, it’s an amazing source of motivation, and if everything goes well, I’ll have more reason to read serious books. It’s not as inspiring to read philosophers as it was, say, five years ago. However, if I have to discuss philosophy every week, I’ll certainly pay more attention to reading. Again, it’s a good opportunity to improve communication skills and learn about what’s going on in other minds who haven’t lost the ability to think. Are there still such minds? We’ll see. I’d like to find someone to compete with, but, perhaps, it’s a kind of unrealistic expectation. Though…
