Finished the book “Group Psychotherapy”. It was an interesting collection of methods of group communication, though not quite profound. The next book I’m going to read is «Âíóòðè è âíå ïîìîéíîãî âåäðà» by Fritz Perls. I’ve already begun reading it. The author has an amazing sense of humor. The language it’s written in reminds me of my own diary at the times when I used to write in Russian. There is a paragraph where Perls says that he abandoned poetry after he had started speaking English in 1934. He was about 40 at the time. When I read this paragraph, I was like, “Wow! It’s like what happened to me, though I was a little younger.” However, in my case, the order was different: I gave up poetry and then started speaking English.

Hey! I actually wanted to write about the speaking club instead of making commentaries on books, but anyway—

Today, there were 20 people. Half of them I’ve never seen before. This indicates the growth of popularity, so I have to think about a new strategy for dealing with large numbers of people. To maintain a general discussion when there are so many participants is not an easy task, especially if 30% of them can’t talk at all. This time, I extended the pair work; but in the future, I’d better come up with something more engaging. My goal is to make the group self-conscious. If everyone comes there to play stupid games and have fun, it’s not what I’m aiming at. To please the audience and get social approval is the last thing I want to do.
