One of the problems with daily writing is that there is too much information out of which I have to choose something to put down on these pages. Now, I’m thinking about the conversation which took place at today’s speaking club. It seems reasonable to describe what was going on there. There certainly have been some features which I may highlight in order to improve them in the future. There also have been some elements which weakened the conversation, so if I detect them, next time it’ll be easier to get rid of them. The question is what makes conversation better? I’m not talking about the people who take part in it and their knowledge of the topic; there is nothing I can do to change it. I’m looking for something I can change or fix; what it may be? I guess I need to focus on making good questions and reducing any tension to the minimum. I’ve noticed that some people may sit silent for a long time, but after I ask them a question and they talk for a while, they get ready to engage in conversation spontaneously without waiting for permission. What if in the beginning I asked only those people who could speak more or less well but were very reluctant to say anything without permission? Moreover, I have to give more time to those who understand the topic better than others, who have something to say but need time to develop their thoughts.
