1:52pm.
Now, I’m thinking about how to focus on work without losing A. What happened yesterday was bigger than a usual conflict. She cried, cursed, and I pushed her far beyond all reasonable limits. We got in bed after midnight. She was very tired. Moreover, she had to wake up at 7am for her first lesson. All of that made her nervous, which to some extent explains why she said, “I’m angry at you” in the morning, asking me to get out. For her it makes perfect sense to blame me for whatever has happened tonight. For a couple of hours, she was playing a stupid video game to calm herself down, and I was responsible for that. If I hadn’t “attacked” her, she would have fallen asleep earlier and then felt much better. Okay, I think I need to pay attention to everything I say while I’m with her, and devote even more energy to conscious control of my behavior. Every minute when we are together I must keep in mind that one inappropriate move might bring about hours of misery.
Now, let’s talk about work. As I mentioned earlier, I watched a couple of videos by Cathrin: “How to make your videos more interesting: increase your audience retention rate & watch time,” and “Why My Youtube Channel Blew Up: How I gained 6k subscribers and 100, 000 views in one month on Youtube,” and “How to be Confident on Camera: Tips for Talking to a Camera as a small Youtuber,” and “ How much Youtube paid me for a video with 50k views: My Youtube ads revenue as a small Youtuber.”
Today, I’m goona continue watching her videos, but before I need to have breakfast. When I got home, I fell asleep and woke up only at noon. Then I did exercises, wrote this diary, and now it’s time to eat.
3:19pm.
Watched the video: “Create Consistent Content on Youtube: My Youtube Content Strategy & how I create content each week.” Feel pity for this girl. She is so much obsessed with what may be called “productivity”. It looks as if she just talks about what she’s doing, posting everything on her social networks all the time. I read a story on her blog where she talked about what she did before starting her online business project. I’m not sure whether I wanna have such a life or even anything closed to that. She has a certain schedule and sticks to this schedule no matter what. All her days are dedicated to content creating business, but by content she means nothing, but what she does “to create content.” I think I have been leading a similar sort of life in terms of online behavior for the last three years, but what’s different is that I do not “engage” with my “audience” and feel free to do whatever I’m doing. Well, that’s why I don’t’ have an audience and she has more than 150k followers on Youtube. However, she’s no longer free and her audience dictates the direction of every new step that she takes. Anyway, I’d like to learn more about this girl to understand better what’s going on on youtube and whether it’s wise to get on board. One more thing about her: She’s very persistent and I guess her IQ is no less than 150.
The next video is: HOW TO GET YOUR VIDEOS SUGGESTED BY YOUTUBE: The secret to growing even faster on Youtube.
Watched. Analytics is the key! But first off, you must narrow down your niche, look original to be noticed by youtube, make valuable high-quality videos, etc.
Now, I’m gonna make tea and watch another video: GET MORE PEOPLE TO WATCH YOUR VIDEOS: How to title your youtube videos & and design better thumbnails.
Watched. What’s the next video? Or I’d better say something about this one before getting to the next? Okay, the entire video, she was talking about titles and thumbnails, as the title suggests. I’ve learned from this video that key words are super important to make other people on youtube notice you, and thumbnails should be made in a similar way to other successive youtubers, but must look slightly unique. Color is vital. Background is vital. An expressive face is vital.
Another video I’m gonna watch is: HOW TO BE UNIQUE & STAND OUT ON YOUTUBE: Tips to help you differentiate your Youtube channel. 1.1k likes. 11,390 views. Released on Nov. 20, 2019.
1. Stop watching & start creating
2. Stop following people in your niche: what’s your mission? What makes you you? What’s missing?
3. Don’t try to be like someone else.
Okay. Let’s try to think about her advice. I haven’t been watching videos about teaching English for quite a long time. If I wanna make videos which may help others learn this language, it’s certainly gonna be unique. My mission? Sounds so pathetic. Really, what am I doing on youtube? Trying to make money? Well, for the last ten days, it’s probably the case, but what was I doing before? I shared my knowledge trying to make others think for themselves, be honest, and learn, learn, learn. So I’m not trying to teach anyone, but I’m trying to convince those who pay attention to what I’m doing that learning is a very good thing. What makes me me? Hmm, perhaps, my unique experience, brutal honesty, passion for knowledge, ambitions, all the bloody books I’ve read and the courses of lectures I watched—just the first thing which came across my mind.
What’s missing? Honestly, there are too many teachers, students, and all sorts of people talking about how to learn English that it’s almost impossible to find something nobody else has already covered. Yet, deep insights and profound content is still possible. I’ve been obsessed with English for more than three years, so there aren’t many people who have the same bilingual experience. I also have a lot of experience handling speaking clubs. This may be useful to talk about, since there are very little meaningful videos on youtube dedicated to learning English via group discussions. Perhaps, I could elaborate on the subject making videos about how to learn English by creating a speaking club and handling it in a certain way.
The next video I’m gonna watch is: SIMPLE YOUTUBE TRICKS YOU NEED TO KNOW AS A BEGINNER: Creating an end screen, placing ads, & more. 1.3k likes. 17, 052 vies. Released on Nov. 23, 2019.
Watched. There was relevan information about the ending and how to put cards in a video. Ads are too early for me.
The next one: ANSWERING YOUR BURNING QUESTIONS: Thoughts on COPPA, the future of my channel, criticism on Youtube. 829 likes. 10, 985 views. Nov. 26, 2019.
This was the most boring video I’ve watched on this channel. I have to admit that mostly in her videos she is very informative and talks only about those things I wanna hear from her. I’m not interested in her personal life or her opinions about people who hang out on youtube. However, I’m interested to see how she developed her channel video after video. That’s why I should pay attention to everything, even though some of her videos may be completely irrelevant. I actually like this way of studying when I go from one video to another, getting through someone else’s monthly experience in one day.
Now, I wanna take a break, get one lesson from YouTube Creator Academy and then have dinner.
Get Discovered. Lesson 1. Search and Discovery on Youtube.
The algorithm follows the audience!
The goals of youtube search:
-help viewers find the videos they want to watch
-maximize long-term viewer engagement and satisfaction
Search.
Tips:
See what words people use to find your channel in Traffic Sources in Youtube Analytics. Incorporate the most relevant search terms for each of your new videos. Add them as titles and descriptions.
Write robust descriptions up to 1-2 paragraphs.
Consider implementing Youtube’s translation tools to reach an international audience.
Brainstorm new video ideas by looking at search results for popular and less competitive queries.
Identify opportunities to serve an audience that isn’t already well-served.
Check the “trending” tub for topics that appeal to you or may be specific to your niche.
Suggested Videos are personalized collection of videos that an individual viewer may be interested in watching next, based on prior activity.
Tips:
Make strong call-to-action for viewers to watch another one of your videos.
Long endings may delay viewers from watching more, so try to be mindful of how your videos end.
Use playlists, links, cards, and end screens to suggest the next video.
Develop a series of videos that are organically connected. Make videos related to popular formats on YT such as challenges or lists
Home is what viewers see first when they open the youtube app.
The selection of videos is based on:
Performance – how well the video has engaged and satisfied similar viewers, among other factors.
The viewer’s watch and search history – how often the viewer a channel or topic and how many times the video have been already shown.
That’s enough for today. Youtube is just a game. I think I may be very successful playing it. It’s pretty easy to get what’s going on there and start making sense out of it. To make a video is like building a tower in a Legion TD. It may be a costly tower which holds lots of mobs, or it may be a 10-gold-tower. I was building only 10-gold-towers, but there was no real game up to this moment. Now, I’m getting in and my channel is gonna blow up quite soon. Being realistic, it’s gonna take at least a year. I've put too much time and effort into studying English that it’s impossible to not attract a big audience if I actually start looking for it. Anyway, we’ll see how it’s gonna work.
