The Golden Fish by Alexander Pushkin

/The first excerpt from the poem /

There lived an old man and his lady
Near the blue-sea in a dilapidated mud hut
They had been living there
For thirty three years. The old man
Seined his net and the old woman
Spun her tread day by day for a long time
One day he was throwing his seine in the blue-sea
And he got only slime as his loot
Then he repeated and threw
His net once again, he had found
The sea-weeds in the net
After his second attempt
For the third time he threw his seine
And he caught just a single fish this time
But the fish was a special one
It was a golden fish there!
The golden fish begged him loudly
And her voice was the voice of a human
- "Let me free" - she said - "dear old man!
Let me go back to the blue-sea!
I will give you, don't worry, a king's ransom
You could ask me for whatever you want to!"
The old fisherman was amazed nor less
He was afraid of the fish that could speak
He'd fishing for three and thirty long years
And he's never once heard
About any golden and speaking magic fish.
He just set her free
And he said to her a few tender words
- "Go back to the blue-sea, my dear!
God will save you! I do not need you
Nor your ransom. Go back to the wide sea!
I let you free. Enjoy your spaciousness
And be happy like you were formerly...
