A night of reflections

It was a gloomy
and stormy night.
I was awoken
by a heavy thunder-clap.
My heart was singing
a melancholy strain,
when, like an undersong,
upon my lone shelter
it started to rain.

The rain,
like being in a state of wrath,
fell heavily upon the roof,
like it was trying
to crash my lone hut,
where,
in a pensive mood
and with re-opened old sores,
I was lying abed, lost
in the melancholy strain in my heart.

Deep in imaginative thoughts
I strayed
and wandered lonely
like a storm-cloud,
that floated over
my lone hut, assayed
to stand against the storm,
while lighning played
in the skies,
rousing up the pictures
of the path I traversed,
which did even more
embitter the melancholy strain
my shattered heart was singing
in tune with an undersong of rain.
