PRINCE CHERNISHOV tall,handsome,long-headed,
light-eyed,intelligent,energetic

HIS BUTLER his name is Aristarchus or suchlike.

KATRINA SUKIN-RHINESDORF Senator Sukin's daughter.
Pretty as a picture.

NATALIE,PRINCESS OF ARMSHTAD tall and young.
The Queen of Baltland.Very pretty.

CHIEF OF THE ROYAL SECRET POLICE

And a lot of others.And men,women,scientists,
criminals.

ACT 1
A hot and dry summer.The Prince's mansion.
Rather far from the capital.The Prince
is in his study.

Enter
BUTLER(pompously):His Excellency Senator Sukin with a daughter!
Chernishov:Oh,God!Katrine with paPA!Better without paPA!Why are they here?!

Enter the guests

CHERNISHOV(joyfully):Soyez les bienvenus!Welcome to my house!Glad to see you.
SENATOR SUKIN:Good afternoon,Sir.When i asked a kind passer-by whose house
was that on the hill and when i heard that it was yours i decided it was my duty
to come to you to convey some views from the palace to you.
KATRINA(joyfully):Bonjour!
CHERNISHOV:O,you are a happy man!You often see our Queen!How her subjects love her!
How united the noblemen seem in the reign of the most beautiful and just Monarch!..

ACT 2
In the mansion's dining room.Chernishov,
Senator Sukin and Katrina Sukin-Rhinesdorf
are at table.

SENATOR SUKIN:But permit me,Prince,as far as i know this mansion is the late Baron Robber's.
CHERNISHOV:Baron Robber is my relative.
SENATOR SUKIN:Oh,superb.Baron was 'a pillar'.In Senate he was respected.
KATRINA:Oh,paPA!The mansion is awesome!I've long been asking paPA to buy a mansion
somewhere here...The place is the most beautiful in the kingdom.
SENATOR SUKIN:When you care for the State,when you work for the sake of our Monarch
you come to self-denial,somehow.There is something early-christian in it,isn't it,Prince?
CHERNISHOV(respectfully):I fully agree with you,Sir...

ACT 6
It's almost dawn.Senator Sukin and his
daughter are in their coach.They are
arriving at the capital.They have
woken yet.
KATRINA:How boring and exhausting to journey at night!Everything has been boring up to now,Dad!
The only pleasant thing was that i saw in my dream the handsome,tall,broad-shouldered bandits
with the surprisingly elegant manners...
SUKIN:My little 'highwayman'.
KATRINA:I'm not little.
SUKIN:You're stupid.
KATRINA:I'm intelligent.
SUKIN:The most intelligent girl.
KATRINA:Yes.That's true.

ACT 7
Tonight the Queen and Katrina are at the ball
in the house of the chief of the secret police.
Natalie and Katrina are very merry.
NATALIE:What a beautiful house!What a wonderfull ball!Baron,if you were not a spy i should appoint
you master of ceremonies!
KATRINA:You should see the Baron Robber's house which came down to 'Mister'!It's awesome!
NATALIE:Baron!Katrina and I wish to come to the Baron Robber's mansion secretly!
The prince must not know about our visit!If successful,you'll be created Hero of Motherland!
But paPA will grumble at my favoritism,won't he?

The beach.
NATALIE:I wish we lived in America.I want to leave the country where my parents were killed
in an accident and my uncle died of alcoholism.
KATRINA:Natty,Katty and Iggy run away to America.It's childish.
NATALIE:Why do you say nothing,Igor? Katty and i are taciturn too but sometimes
we want to say some words.
IGOR:A wonderful idea.
NATALIE:Is this all you want to say?Haven't you tried to imitate a deaf-mute?
You'd be a success.
IGOR:I love you,girls.
KATRINA:It seems that HE WILL NOT GIVE US UP,NATTY.
NATALIE:I knew that it was exactly what his silence implied.

Rick and Dick,two soldiers,are in the
bushes on the edge of Kven Forest.
Between the bushes a sun-lit green meadow
is seen.

Dick drinks water from his flask.Rick searches the place for something.

RICK:Isn't it strange,Dick?!There must be the fucking stump,the shit and the crumpled
newspaper here!It was here where i dropped my 500 cronas!No,i'll not go away till
i find the money...
DICK:What?What's happened?
RICK:Hush!

RICK and DICK squat down watching a trio of strangers.

RICK:Armed,solemn.Walking to a wedding.Or to execute a death sentence.
DICK:The burly guy is dangerous.
RICK:Why on earth are they walking near our Natty?
DICK:You're asking me?Let's ask them!
RICK:They'll not speak politely,Dick!I have intuition of a girl.
