Apples and pears

I've just received a letter from London.  I met two couples in Egypt a month ago.

I won't give here their names for understandable reason. But I am very thankful to these

people.  The music of the heart is not always heard even when you see the perfect instru-

ment for that and both are so rare to find.  They are good friends.  One couple when

retired left London and went to the place they were born. It is in the South Wales.

And here - I hope they will forgive me - I can't but give the name of the house they

now live in  - Swn-y-Mor.  If you could only hear it in Welsh! Then maybe you will not

even need the translation - so much music in it!  But as it is written.....  here is

the English for it - "Sound of the Sea".  And if they wish you "Iehyd Da" (good health)

it comes from "Calan Lan" (clean heart).

I am definite that the time for Europeans and Americans has come to appeal to the

British Parliament persuading them to reveal the real treasures still hidden on these

islands.  Millions of people come to the United Kingdom to witness that once an empire

this country left no spare place in its innumerable museums and galleries for so many

unique exhibits arrived here from all the corners of the world.  Now many tourists

wishing to save their money instead of taking a round the world tour go straight to

London.  But have they ever heard the Welsh hymn or cockney?

The other couple spoke cockney - some consider it a linguistic phenomenon but I

prefer to call it poetry whose author is not Shakespear or Byron.....  but people.

Thus it only means - no Nobel prize for this masterpiece.....  who could be given it to?

The first what came into my mind was "apples and pears" ("stairs") and I was a bit

ashamed not to remember more though I used to know.....  and with a kind smile this

couple taught me how to say "heart" in cockney and many other things.....

And though I am getting old (I wouldn't mention it but.....  well..... people

notice it) I still learn and still like to say  "Step by step and up we go!"  ....

.....apples and pears, you know.....

.....the sound of the sea.....    .....the music of the heart.....
