SUPER SANDWICHES

Eating sandwiches is a way of life. Do you know where the idea for sandwiches came from?

One day, about 200 years ago, famous British politician was too busy at work to stop for lunch. He called his servant and asked him to hut his food between two slices of bread. This way, he could hold his lunch in one hand, and continue to write with the other.
That day, there was meat and rice for lunch. The servant mixed the meat and rice together. Next, he added some tomatoes, a few peppers, and a lot of salt. He put it all between two slices of bread and served it to his master.
His master was very happy, and told all his friends about it. Everyone listened to him because he was famous. Many people started to put their food between two slices of bread, too. They remembered the politician, whose name was the Earl of Sandwich. Soon everyone called the snack a “sandwich”!
Pupils all over the world take sandwiches to school every day. Many people like to eat them on picnics. Children in America eat a lot of different kinds of sandwiches. One children’s newspaper decided to see who could make the tastiest and healthiest sandwich. More than 5,000 children entered the competition. They thought of many interesting recipes.
