Globalization

What is globalization? It’s something that unites us but makes us lose uniqueness.
When did it start? When people began to travel and conquer lands. For example, food from Roman Empire was spread in Britain after the conquest. Or when Britain became a strong country its language was inculcated in all colonies and food from colonies got in British cuisine. Another example, Peter the 1 brought the potato from abroad to Russia and now it’s an important part of our cuisine and it seems to be our national food. The same can be said about ravioli which came from China.
Nowadays globalization is spreading much faster. We don’t have conquests now and have a more civilized way of spreading things from abroad which is called import; it was done with the scientific and technological revolutions so now we can get anywhere and contact anybody from anywhere without waiting for a long time.
For the latest period fast food has been spread everywhere, skyscrapers have been built almost in all cities, sushi and pizza have been prepared in all countries and the English language has been learned at all schools of the world. So everybody thinks that one day people from all over the world will speak the same language, have similar cities, the same cuisine, leisure centers. And now we talk about disadvantages of globalization that we lose our uniqueness, spoil our languages with English words and politicians make our political system similar. So there is a group of people who protest against globalization.
I think total globalization is impossible because there is nothing absolute in our life. What about the mentality of each nationality, its idioms, proverbs and even the climate of the country because even that has influence on our temperaments. The warmer the climate, the more impassioned people are in that country and vice versa the colder climate the more reserved people are. If we compare Englishmen and Spanish people we can see this difference.
Now everybody studies English because it’s an international language. We can study English grammar, most words but it’s impossible to study all English proverbs, idioms, phrasal verbs etc and it’s even difficult to understand some English jokes because they are made with an English mentality. And also everybody can’t pronounce English sounds correctly. So the appearance of Spanish English, Russian English, Chinese English etc is inevitable in the future; like it was with American English. So we will be understood everywhere we go.
What about food? Everybody has ever eaten pizza but in different countries it has different taste. In Italy it has one taste, in Poland it’s different. Why does it happen? Because each country has its own terrain and climate and quality of products depends on it. And also cooks are different and have different view of cooking.
So can all people on the world think and feel the same way? I think no!
There will be a period of time when countries are relatively similar and we’ll stop traveling; it’ll be a crisis in tourism. We won’t be interested to research difference between Spanish English and Russian English or compare leisure centers of China and Milan because they’ll have lots in common. It’ll be the time when we stay in our countries.
But what will happen then? Will we keep the same kinds of English, the same recipes, kinds of buildings? No, it’s impossible. Because societies are alive; and they are developing all the time. It’ll be death of culture, languages, lifestyle which we have now and birth of the new world. It’s like a Phoenix who dies and is reborn from ashes.
Everything will be changed. Nationalities will get new qualities: in each country new things and their names will appear so new languages will appear from old kinds of English.
There will be new houses which will show a new culture of a new nationality.
There will be new dishes and recipes. People will start travelling again and exchanging their experience.
These changes will not happen in fifty, hundred or two hundred years; maybe just in thousand or thousands years. Looking at the developing of the world you can see two internal truths: everything has sunrise and sunset; and everything develops in spiral – repeats on a new level.
