A stupid thief

"We all know that murder, burglary and shoplifting are illegal. We all know that we're not allowed to go around hijacking planes, kidnapping people or committing acts of terrorism. We probably all think that faced with a particular situation we could make a good guess whether it's legal or not".
Nevertheless, in fact there are some people who commit crimes. For example, two months ago a tall, strong man tried to steal a purse of an old woman. It wasn’t dark, but the burglar stupidly took off his mask and everyone saw his face. What a shame! Because of this incident the man made off. Everybody thought that it’s impossible to run him to earth, but due to a camera mounted on a pole his face was automatically matched to a database. Last week he was found and a policeman handcuffed him and took him to the police station. Yesterday he was put to trial. A judge took everything into consideration: video of crime and statement of witnesses. The criminal pleaded not guilty; he adhered exactly, firmly, and clearly to his statement. He misrepresented the facts, he claimed that video was a fake and witnesses told lies. However, nobody believed him. His face expressed complete, hopeless despair. He tried to bribe the judge, but he brought out: “I don’t take bribes!” Three hours later the burglar was convicted and imprisoned.
