Russia gets helping hand from NZ

When the Russian rugby league set up its overseas development outreach program, it was a well thought out and researched proposal. Singapore and NZ were targeted as its starting point due to their geographical position. We see NZ as a super power in RL and feel they have much in common culturally, and see their style of play exciting. NZ has a very good grass roots structure that develops their players into top class international players, something that can be mirrored in Russia. With Singapore it’s seen as a gateway into Asia and a great crossroads for Australian and NZ teams to meet up. The fact finding mission was an outstanding success, with NZ offering the RRL support with its program and bridges have now been built. With Singapore the RRL are planning to enter a team in the Asian Masters 7s in November if all goes well.
