On November 21 Dmitry lasted to the airfield and sat down on its belly. The Next was routine.

With these thoughts he fell asleep. He woke up from the cold. It was cool. Raya was busy  warming stove and the dinner missed  by Dimitri. The hand was a little sick, but it was cozy and quiet..
A day later, it was reported that Sergei took a parachute and  in the evening was in the regiment. Serge was unshaven and a bit haggard, but alive.
The meeting was joyful. Dmitri even said that he would never forget the feat - Serge even Superbad!!
They were sat and chatted. Sergei was given week off. But Serge did not want to go on the days off. Who would rest when nazy were surrounded and Sergey had his own affairs.
But two days he had to rest. The pilots were not enough as always, so Sergei had already flew on the fourth day after his returning. And what about vacations?
-after the war  said Sergei.
The squadron commander appointed Sergei to be the leader.  The  new aircraft was given, he was assigned to be a leader of group. He flew on the mission on November 27 The ring around the 6th Army closed on November 27 . Operation Uranus ended
Dmitri continued to be treated and noose around the neck of the German 6th Army continued to shrink.
Raya finished school and decided to be a doctor like her mother. The war changed everything. The 4th German A.F. Fleet began bombing Stalingrad in the august 23 from the airdrome Tatsinskii that was  about 250 kilometers west of Stalingrad. The planes dropped their deadly cargo and returned to take more bombs and to kill again. 71,000 civilians people were killed  and 150,000 people were injured. It was more than 1945 in Dresden, it was an absolute record for killing civilians during the war!
They turned Stalingrad in ruins and they they killed  Raya's mother on August 23 .
On the august 24th the hospital was evacuated to the east, and Raya persuaded not to leave Volga, and to send her a small town on the east bank of the Volga River, less than 50 kilometers from Stalingrad to airfield. Voljsk as paramedic.
Raya workied three months  in the medical unit of the airfield Voljsk. There were a little work   The pilots young and healthy guys did not waste the time on all that diseases They flew, they beat the Nazi and sometimes did not return.

His sleep and rest was disturbed. In this case, Dmitry was dying to want to the front. Young beautiful girl saw, felt in Dmitri  support and reliance when she lost  mother and uncertainty about her father. In that situation, the young and handsome Stalin's Sokol (Falcon)broke her heart!
They were together, but between them there was nothing carnal. Dmitri was going to fight and he doubted that he would be lucky. Just a little people stayed alive in that chopper, and to leave Raya with the child was not his rule.
Serge came to visit Dmitry in the first week of December. Serge said to Dmitri the last news 
and boast that he was awarded the Order of Lenin, became Communist member and shorted down another two planes. There were Messerschmitt-109 fighter and transport Junkers 52.

December 19 was the most successful day for the Luftwaffe.  About 150 aircraft landed in Pitomnic had carried three tons of cargo. However, such successful days were very seldom.. That becomes a problem very soon!
Ў°The hard weather conditions was not the only problem. The airfield Pitomnik  soon become  the object of attention of Russian aviation. The wreckage of downed aircraft collapsed the runway often and become the reasons of the accidents, which made delay for in and out flying the planes. The charred remains of military vehicles took away on the both sides of the runway, airfield and soon turned into a "cemetery of the aircraft." The night landing brought double threat 
Compared with the Soviet air raids that danger even danger could not be called. German anti-aircraft artillery, of course, could not provide adequate protection of the airfield. After  all, only to find a night bomber for air defense needed a powerful searchlight, which immediately helped to the Russian artilleryЎ± -as a German eyewitness remembered
The German troops suffered huge losses in manpower. They had lost every day at least 1,500 soldiers. They had lost from active operations of Soviet troops, the Soviet Air Force, as well as from hunger, cold and diseases.

So, the main assistance was  the air bridge for surrounded army. Help that could be expected for surrounded were transporting of ammunition, food and medicines.
One of the largest airports  which the German Nazis were trying to operate  to help to the 6th Army was an airfield in Tazinskaya (approximately 250 km to the west of Stalingrad, close to the railway station Tatsinskaya)
On December 16 the offensive of the Soviet troops in the middle part of Don river. This section of the front which was defended by the Italians, was broken. Our four tank corps rushed into the breach. Among them, was the corps N 24, which had a special task - did not engage in local battles and quietly go deep behind enemy lines. On the tanks painted crosses instead stars. There were only mortars "Katyusha", fuel tanks with the tanks and the company of sappers, . By the way, our tanks even had losses from their own. (By the way, Katyusha's rockets were top Secret weapon, and no one did not take by the enemy)

Among the Nazis started the panic on the airfield. They darted around the airfield. Pilots and technicians  tried to break through to their planes to take off, but came under  the fire from our weapons of the tanks. Some of them had  run  up the motors and  began to taxi for takeoff. Death was waiting them here. The planes faced each other and began to burn like torches.
Suddenly, one Junkers a little away from the run way , separate from the other started run. The plane was about 200 meters.

The remaining unit on December 27 at 3 am broke through the defense and got out of the ring. There were only 927 people.
By December 30, the Corps broke out of the encirclement, refueled the tanks with a mixture trapped aviation gasoline and engine oil on the airfield .
The front line was temporarily stabilized after that   Neither the Soviet no the German troops did not have enough forces to break through the defense.
After the destruction Tazinskaya airfield, the position of the 6th Army had further deteriorated. Pitomnik became the main airfield.

The soldiers received 100 g of bread a  daily serving. The soldier's horse meat diet had become a luxury and started  hunting on the dogs, cats and crows.  Starvation had come.
 At last  all enemy troops did not receive winter clothing, suffered severely from the harsh cold weather (in January the temperature reach-25o-30o). "- Memories of the Nazy.
Ў°Before Christmas 1942 the troops were issued with 100 grams of bread per person per day, and after Christmas this ration was reduced to 50 grams. Later, 50 grams of bread received only the parts that were directly carried out combat operations!- "- Memories of another Nazy.

Finally, by January 1, Dmitry's hand had been   healthy. It did not even scratch and paramedic found him to be  healthy. Dmitry thanked, gently parted with Raya, promising to be with her always and whistling merrily  went to the commander of the regiment on the opposite side of the airfield.
Dmitry happily walked along the parking places where the La-5-s stood  and a little further Yak-9-s were. Mechanics swarmed here. There cheeks were red and frostbitten . But they  worked  in the cold -25. They worked for the win!
"Beautiful Machines", Dmitry thought. The pilots liked  Yak-9, as well as they liked  La-5. Between the pilots of the both types constantly argued what  type was better. It was not possible to make comparative fight, but it was clear. that ammunition on Lavochkin was greater, and therefore could shorted down the Nazis  more for flight!
Squadron commander was  glad to meet Dmitry. The pilots were not enought as always . The surrounding  of the Germans had ended. The transport aircraft were flying to support 6-th army. There were already cases surrender of  Germans  .

At last on the fifth they went with Sanka for take off. The sun was shining, it was freezing and joyfully. It had to control the air space in the vicinity Pitomnic airfield not to down  below 3,000 meters and did not come close to the airfield.

The Germans suffered huge losses: it was killed more than 147 thousand, surrendered more than 90,000 soldiers and officers, including 24 generals. 750 planes, 1550 tanks, 6,700 guns, 8,000 machine guns, 90,000 rifles were taken.
Soviet victory in Stalingrad intensified struggle in all countries of  Europe. The land of France and Poland, Bulgaria and Netherlands, Belgium, Norway was in fire under the feet of German soldiers.
The defeat of the Nazis in Stalingrad was the beginning of their defeat in the Europe. It is no coincidence The streets and squares of many cities in Europe after the war, were named in honor of the city on the Volga.
But the war is not over. As part of the Southern Front of the 8th Air Army, 235 Air Division, the regiment was sent to Rostov.
