The cuckoo and the rooster

THE CUCKOO AND THE ROOSTER

(Fable)

"Oh, darling Rooster, how your voice is tender!
You are the best musician in the entire world."
"No, dear Cuckoo, it is you,
Your talent in its splendor,
Shines like a massive slab of finest pure gold."

"You"re a flutterer, my Rooster, day and night
I want to listen to your trills. You are a professor,
You are a nightingale to everyone's delight."
"You, Cuckoo, are a diva and a silver throat possessor!

"This Nightingale's a miserable whiner.
Your music comes from heaven ; a hymn from Paradise."
"You, Rooster, are much louder, your taste is finer,
You talent is a gift -- impossible to overprice."

Two sparrows happened near,
A father and his son.
The chick exclaimed, "Hear,
The best under the sun
Two greatest poets here
We've met in all the glory!"
But Dad replied, "Sorry,
They bandy back and forth this miserable hail,
While far away is our Nightingale.
When he is back and takes the floor
They are as good as a squeaking door."
"So why does the bombastic Rooster
Act like a Cuckoo's booster,
And she with much ado
Shower him with the utmost coo?"
***
"You ask, why does the Cuckoo praise the Rooster's squeak?
Because this Rooster praises the Cuckoo's fawning creak."
