High salary gets you high power. Power gets you more possibilities. Life is short on Earth. Thus, we are doing Science for salary? Is there any exception? Hawking perhaps?
"What is the nature of physical explanation?" The group of physical metro-logy standards. They are kept unchanging.
"Why is it enough for us?" Because we are getting grants and salary for finding physical explanation. The theologians are finding the divine explanations, because they are payed for this. If you like, you could read their results, e.g. in journal "Creation" http://creation.com/journal-of-creation
