Give each princess a dungeon
Give each prince a horse
And courage
To withstand mortal wars
Or to lie in the bed of honor
Slain dragons and warlocks amidst
Give each prince two coins of sorrows
To wear upon their lids
Lay each fallen to rest
Award them eternal relief
Give each princess a dress
Blacker than widows’ grief
Braid your hair
Kneel in prayer
For the dead
For the living
Life is cruel
Love is fleeting
Death is all-forgiving
In every fairytale
