We, Russians, have forgotten the word “VATRA”.
Meanwhile many Slavs (Ukrainians, Serbs, Croats and others) still use this word in their own languages.
That is why it is rather difficult for Russian speaker to understand the sense of the following wise Croatian proverb: “Vatra je dobar sluga, ali je los gospodar”.
("Fire is a good servant but a bad master.")
Etymologists know that in the Russian language there are some words of the same root as in VATRA. At the same time the Etymology itself (the study of origins of words) is a good servant but is a very bad master, when it disposes of ideology and politics.
