Description of collection of publications

"Description of collection of publications about lactic acid bacteria flora of Russia/USSR". By Sergei Rosen and Helen Rosen //Annual meeting of the Israel society for microbiology, February 5 and 6, 1996.

The collection of information about lactic acid bacteria in Russia/USSR was done at the Yerevan Zootechnic and Veterinary Institute from 1963 to 1977. The collection consist of 3500 papers and 120 books on Russian flora (37,000 pages in 34 Volumes and 18 boxes of microfilms) and 1,870 papers and 50 books on the flora of other countris (19,000 pages in 37 volumes and 6 boxes of microfilms).

On each paper and envelope of microfilm there is an abstract wich description the source, name of species, number of strains for each species as well as the morphological, cultural, [hysiological and biochemical properties.

This information is then collated, using a card index system.

During this period, data was collected about 50,000 strains that had been isolated during the past 100 years in Russian laboratories.

When applying Bergey's basic test,89% agreed with the Russian data and 11% did not agree. On addition testing nearly 30% of the cases did not agree/ It is suggested that these discrepancies may be connected with region peculiarities  species rather than methodical error.
