The story about Flowers

by Asya Semenova

That story happened in a flower shop last year. It was early spring, morning. A lot of flowers were beautifully arranged in a shop window. There were red and white roses, tulips, chrysanthemums, cornflowers, and lilies in the shop. Every time new flowers were coming from the store, and all of them made friends with each other and got on well. But one day the life of these flowers turned around.

So, it was early morning on Monday, and new party was coming. New fresh roses, tulips, chrysanthemums, cornflowers, lilies arrived to the shop, and it seemed to be another happy day from flower’s life. But there was one more type of flowers among other new-comers – daffodils. They seemed to pertain little differently to everyone else. When the daffodils were displayed in the shop window in one row with the other flowers, those saw the new ones and gasped. The new flowers were very proud of themselves, looked selfish and unpleasant.

«We’ve never seen you before», - said tulips. – «What’s your name?»

«It doesn’t matter for you,» - the daffodils answered and started looking around. «What an old-fashioned place! We used to see much more beautiful places!»

«We are all friends here», - the other flowers continued. – «We hope you’ll join us!»

«We don’t need your company, little weeds», - the daffodils answered.

Throughout the next week all roses, tulips, chrysanthemums, cornflowers and lilies were suffering from air shortcoming because daffodils were greedy and took much of that.

«You can make us die down!» - one of the flowers said.

«I don’t care about you, I need more fresh air…» - was the answer.

There was the second week spent with the daffodils. They were bought like the others but people didn’t know they bring selfish and purse-proud flowers home.
But suddenly a shop assistant decided to rearrange all flowers and put daffodils nearer to the corner, so they became feeling bad.

«What’s happening?» - they wondered.

But other flowers didn’t pay attention to them and were talking to each other that time. During the next two days daffodils became looking worse and pasted. They became a shadow of their former selves. They had almost died by the end of the week so just one or two persons decided to buy them. The daffodils couldn’t even ask anybody for help because of being exhausted. The flowers noticed this and said to them: «We forgive you but it is not our fault that you are looking so ugly now». But daffodils just were sighing sadly.

Next day the shop assistant noticed limp flowers and refused to order the next party of daffodils. That’s how the selfish flowers’ story was ended.
