UNIVERSITY OF SALZBURG: REFUGEES WELCOME!
The University of Salzburg offers a series of courses, to provide recognised refugees and asylum seekers with access to university education.
 These courses are held within the framework of the Austrian Universities (UNIKO) MORE-Project.

Admission Procedure
Recognised refugees and asylum seekers can enrol as non-degree programme students and the tuition fees will be waived. Participants in the MORE-Initiative will be well-supported through the enrolment process through a cooperation with the ;H (Austrian national union of students) at the ;H Consulting Service centre at the Uni-Park Nonntal. Participants may then register personally at the “Studienabteilung” (admissions office) during opening hours.

Special courses
Recognised refugees and asylum seekers can attend courses which have been specially developed to suit their needs. Students may choose from a variety of subjects including theological, cultural, socio-political issues and the latest advances in technology. There are no exams in these courses.

German Courses
The Language Centre offers German courses for learners with a low to a more advanced knowledge of German. The courses are for participants who are used to learning and have a very steep learning curve. More Information on Language Center courses can be found under the following link: LINK

Access to the University Library
The university library is open to recognised refugees and asylum seekers and its services are free of charge. All. libraries provide free access and all of the available media (analogue and digital) may be used in the library, and from mid-October onwards special tours will be offered to the MORE target group. (Contact: Gabriele.Erhart(at)sbg.ac.at). The Langenscheidt and the Reise Know-How publishing provide free and non-bureaucratic access to their online dictionaries in Arabic, Curdish, Patscho and Dari. ;H “Buddy “-System
In cooperation with the Austrian National Union of Students (;H) Salzburg so called “Buddies” are dedicated to welcoming newcomers. These “Buddies” are available to help refugees and asylum seekers not only with their studies, but also to help them in their everyday life. The Refugee Project of the ;H Salzburg includes a language cafe, city walking tours and the “Buddy” system. The language caf; is intended to help students learn and improve their German language skills. The city walking tours focus on institutions and places which are relevant to the refugees. The city walks are offered in several languages including Kurdish, Arabic and Turkish, and are supported with specially developed city maps. “Buddies” commit themselves to accompanying and helping the refugees as they become more familiar with everyday life here.

Participation in Sport Courses
Registration for sports course opens on Monday, 13.03.2017. All courses, in which there is a free place, are available. Registration must be carried out in person in the University Fitness Centre(UFZ) in the Otto Holzbauer Stra;e 1-3, 1st floor (www.uni-salzburg.at/ufz).  Applicants receive detailed and individual advice so they can attend courses tailored to their needs. Registration times: Monday to Friday from 09:00-12:00. All sport courses start on the  1st  March 2017 – late entry is also possible! The USI–staff are looking forward to meeting you.
