How to create a new meaning? It’s an important question for anyone who learns to think in a new language. At first I want to consider what the word “meaning” means. Roughly speaking, we can define “meaning” as the relationship between an act and a purpose. For example, the meaning of my writing in English is based on the purpose to develop my comprehension of this language. The meaning of the purpose lies in my desire to use this language to control myself. The meaning of my desire to use the language for self-control is my desire to control myself better. I feel I can do it better by using a foreign language. Maybe it is not necessary to use English for this, and, maybe, I will soon switch on German, but, anyway, a foreign language is better. So, I can say that the meaning of my writing in English lies in the desire to control myself better.
Subsequently, I can say that the creation of a new meaning is the creation of new relationships between actions and purposes. I can write down all my purposes for a week, month, year, decade, and life, and then write down all my actions. After doing this, I may see that lots of my actions don’t have any meaning at all, and some purposes are supported by no actions. Then I can think about my actions and purposes more deeply and tie them by a new meaning. Doing this work every day, week, month etc I would understand myself better, and my life is going to become more meaningful.
