Mind Transformation 178

Now, I want to analyze the last lecture by Peterson I watched. It was about Freud and his ideas. First of all there was the structure of the human psyche made out of such abstract concepts like id (unconsciousness), ego (consciousness), and super-ego (which might be called superconsciousness). So, what is id? Is it something subtle? Is it real? Can I say something about it with an appropriate degree of certainty? Well, I don’t deny the existence of such things like subtle motives or some kind of inner experience, which affects people’s behavior forcing them to do unpredictable actions, though it’s rather we just don’t have sufficiently developed tools to count “everything”. However, I have to point out that these categories are kind of idols and can’t be applied for really serious inner work. When you divide yourself on three parts and admit that you can’t control two of them, it’s not a good strategy for personal growth. Maybe it’s suitable when you work with patients who suffer from such and such diseases, but if you want to go beyond established limits this categorization is quite futile.
Frankly speaking, it’s so complicated that one page isn’t enough even to superficially describe what was going on there. Perhaps I’ll continue tomorrow.
