Mind Transformation 198
Today I used another different way of reading. Before I start to read I had talked to myself about the chapter trying to guess what it may be about. The chapter was called “Deprivation and Satiation” and I had not so much to say about it. I just supposed that there will be something that refers to studying animals’ behavior in the situation when they are deprived from something they like. Then, I noticed that my attention was engaged in reading much more than yesterday; I not only tried to examine my assumption but also was seeking something I actually had to say before reading. It’s really powerful to spend five minutes before you start reading and imagine what you can find in the text. Now I can say a lot about what I’ve read, and it stuck in my memory without efforts. I’m going to use the rest of the page to describe what I’ve learned from the chapter.
Deprivation strengthens drives. There were considered such drives as hunger, sex, and thirsty. I think the notion might serve for many other things. For example, if I have a habit to write and for some period of time I have no access to it— No, it’s not the case. Writing is not necessary for living. It seems that drives work only in the situation when an organism is deprived from such things which are vital for its survival. Writing is not vital and after some period of time without it I just put my energy into something else.
