Mind Transformation 214

214.
Having set up a goal to read 1000 pages in a month, I was engaged in reading very quickly. Today, I’ve read 87 pages. I’ve almost finished reading “Science and Human Behavior” by B.F. Skinner. During the day, I was thinking about developing my reading speed even to 2000 pages in a month, so that I would be able to read one big book in a week. Of course, it requires a lot of concentration, and I obviously have to sacrifice plenty of other things to be able to do that. Nonetheless, I’m sure that if I had enhanced my reading speed to 2000 pages in a month, I would have known English as well as I know my native language. I mean, I would be able to write, speak, and think as a native speaker so that no one will be able to guess whether I’m a native speaker or not. I’m not going to achieve that only by reading and definitely will do lots of listening as well.
What if I make a schedule where one day I do only reading for about 15 hours; next day, listening to lectures or audio books; next day, writing; then, thinking and talking nonstop? In Russian, for example, I could read for three days quite easily. I also was able to watch lectures and sometimes movies—especially series—for more than 70 hours with eight-hour pauses for sleeping. It’s difficult to say something certain about writing and speaking because I didn’t try to do it for as much as I can at once, but many times I did it for hours unintentionally. At least I can remember several times when I was talking for about 5 hours trying to develop one or another concept. But, again, I didn’t set up goals for doing it. If I had set up a goal to talk, or write, or think as much as I can, the result would be way different. Okay, it seems to be a good idea to take a few English books and read them at once as fast as possible.
