Mind Transformation 217

217.
Now, I’m going to write about reading. Since reading is one of my favorite activities, and I do it a lot, I need to think about choosing books very carefully. I can’t read everything written in all languages. I know that many books are so fascinating, and it’s almost impossible to quit reading them after you had started. I also know that most of these “fascinating books” are useless and reading them is a waste of time. Hence, I must ask myself as often as I am about to start reading a new book: Why exactly should I read this book? I must be able to quit reading any book after 10-20 pages. It’s also important to consider quality of the language a book is written and avoid reading anything that has lower quality than a previous book. I have to aim at seeking the language of the highest possible quality. I repeat it again, there is no one English. Everyone speaks his/her own English, and the same refers to writing. The best way to learn, therefore, is to find someone whose English is better than any other Englishes, and focus on him/her.
Yesterday, I rejected two books that I wanted to read. I read about 10-15 pages till realized that it was a waste of time. Now, I’m going to read a book about Shakespearean tragedies by A.C. Bardley. I already started reading the book, and it seems to be well written. What if I reread all Shakespearean books in original?
