Mind Transformation 220

220.
While reading Bradley’s book, I feel how my desire to reread all Shakespeare’s tragedies in original becomes stronger. Moreover, sometimes, I think that I could find time and analyzed some tragedies on Bradley’s manner. I mean to take a few weeks or even months and do nothing but study “Antony and Cleopatra.” Today, I read chiefly about Hamlet and his role in the play. Was he a hero? Why didn’t he accomplish Ghost’s command? Why did he delay his duty? What did Shakespeare want to show creating such a controversial character? How should we treat him? Bradley claims that the common view, according to which Hamlet was rather a thinker than doer, is not merely suitable. Well, I don’t want to repeat all his arguments here. It wasn’t my goal to go deeply into understanding all these small details, which give rise to endless debates. I’m not in school, so I can get pleasure from reading without being obliged to talk about it afterwards. There is no need to pass an exam or test. Really, my task is to increase the reading speed, and the main point here is to be attentive and avoid distractive thoughts while moving throughout a text. If I try to memorize everything I read, I’ll read one or two books a year; exactly as the vast majority of people—who read at all—do. I guess it’s not a smart way to learn to read.
