Fate
Many years passed. Sarah finished school, graduated from the university and now she was a lawyer. The day when she gave away Ryan, she promised to make things right. So she worked hard and managed to become someone who was respected. Nobody knew about her past. It was a part of her life that was kept away from everybody. The time has come to do something. Now nothing could come on her way. She was ready to fight and do everything in her power to reunite with her son.
Nothing bothered Sarah. She knew that the moment Ryan saw her and she explained everything, he would have forgiven her and everything would be fine. How could she be so na;ve? She was a grown-up woman but was acting like a selfish child.
She overcame lots of obstacles to find out about Ryan’s foster parents. First of all she wanted to talk to them. Then she would have told them that she wanted to be in his life. Of course, she wouldn’t have taken him away from them but she would like Ryan to know that she was his biological mother. Was she asking for too much? Maybe. At that moment all she could think of was how she would meet her baby after all of those years.
She plucked up her courage and called Ryan’s foster parents. She didn’t tell them anything over the phone. She only told them that she wanted to talk to them.
The following day she woke up in a wonderful mood. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and nothing could have gone wrong. She had breakfast and took the road to the place where she should meet the Trainors.
She parked her car near the restaurant. When she entered the restaurant the waiter showed her the table. The Trainors were already there. Sarah thought that they looked a little bit puzzled. Something went through her mind. Something was not all right. She approached to them and smiled. Sarah didn’t know how to start the conversation. She had a speech but now that she saw them, she was completely at a loss. She pulled herself together and started to speak. The Trainors listened to her without interrupting. When she finished speaking Amanda, Mrs. Trainor, started crying. Sarah thought that it was a normal reaction. Maybe she was too pushy? Eric, Mr. Trainor, tried to calm Amanda down. When she felt better Eric started speaking. He said that when she called them the day before, they had thought that she had known something about their son and that they had finally found someone who could help. What? Wait a minute. Find their son? What happened? Where was he? Now Sarah started panicking. Her heart began beating faster. What was going on?
Eric started from the very beginning. Amanda couldn’t have kids so they have made a decision to adopt one. The moment they saw Sam, they knew that he was the one. So 12 years ago they adopted a wonderful boy. Sam was a very nice kid. They couldn’t be more thankful. They had the time of their life. How proud they were when he went to school and joined their football team. He was a born sportsman. They never missed any of his matches. One day 2 years ago he went to school and didn’t come back home. He disappeared. They searched everywhere. He was gone. Some claimed that they saw him on the school bus, others said that he hadn’t been at school at all that day.
Sarah nearly fainted. No, all of this couldn’t be true. She was waiting for so long. She was sure that soon she would see him, hug him and tell him that she was waiting for the day for 12 days. Why? Why was this happening? Why God was so cruel? She was so angry and helpless at the same time. She thanked Trainors for their time and silently left the place. Eric ran after her and gave her one of his last photos. She tried to smile but she couldn’t.
Sarah was walking aimlessly. Soon she found herself near a bridge. That’s it. She didn’t have any reason to live. If she died today nobody would even be upset. Her life was miserable. How could she wait for so long? Why didn’t she contact the Thrainors earlier? Everything could be different now. Yes, everything was over for her. She didn’t need this life without her baby. She looked around and came closer to the edge of the bridge. She was about to jump when she heard a man’s voice. She looked in his direction. For a moment she thought that it was Ryan. Everything was so blurred. It was impossible as Ryan was dead. The man started to speak. He said that she shouldn’t jump. Every problem had a solution. She could tell him what had happened and they would figure out what to do together. Sarah laughed. How could he help her? Nobody could. All she wanted was to be left alone. So she told the man to leave as she knew what she was doing. Slowly he went closer to her. From the back he didn’t see her much. Now that he was closer to her he realized that he had never seen such a beautiful woman before. For somebody she would look a mess but at that moment Dan knew that he should have done everything in his power to save her. He asked her if she would like to have a ding with him and tell him her story. If he couldn’t convince her that life was worth living then after that she could come back to the same place and jump. He wouldn’t stop her. All he wanted was a chance. A chance to prove that all could be fixed. When she looked at him she really wanted to believe him. Something was in his eyes that made her think. He held out his hand. She agreed to move away from the edge. Dan sighed with relief and helped her.
As it appeared Dan was private investigator. Actually, one of the best. Sarah googled him. Maybe he was sent from above to help her. Maybe the time hasn’t come to leave this world. Sarah told him everything and he agreed to help. He promised to contact the Trainors as soon as possible and would do his best to find her son. Sarah wanted to believe him.
As the days went by, Sarah and Dan would meet vey often so that Dan could tell her all he could find out about that tragic day. Soon they became very close.
A year passed. Then two. Nothing changed. The only thing that made her stay alive was Dan. He was by her side, night and day. Soon they started living together. She never forgot about Sam but as the time passed she started to realize that the changes of finding him were really slim.
Sarah always loved art. Ryan was good at drawing. She had several of his pictures. From time to time she would look at them and remember the time with him. She had to move on. Dan made her happy, as happy as it was possible.
One day she was on a business trip and one of her colleagues offered to go to an exhibition of a promising young artist. She agreed. She hasn’t been to art galleries for a while. She was too busy at work. Moreover, Dan was not a big fan of art. So it was settled. After work they would go to that exhibition.
It was a posh place. All of the people looked fancy. The moment she saw the paintings, she knew that she wanted to meet the artist. One of the men showed her in the direction of a black-haired young man. She couldn’t see his face. When she approached him the glass of champagne fell on the floor. There he was. Standing right in front of her. A spitting image of his father. My God, how much he resembled Ryan. Tears appeared in her eyes. The young man was looking at her and couldn’t understand what was going on. When she finally spoke, she said that she really liked his works and would like to buy one of the paintings. She asked him if they could have a drink together to discuss the details. He looked a little bit confused but agreed.
The next day they met and she told him the whole story. One thing she couldn’t understand was how he appeared in another city. He said that he didn’t remember the first 12 years of his life. Moreover, he thought that his so-called parents were his biological ones.
As it appeared the Smiths couldn’t have kids and didn’t have money to adopt one. They found a medicine that would block one’s memory. So they used it on Sam. They got arrested and the family was reunited.
Sam forgave Sarah and they started to meet quite often. Eventually, life was worth living.
