Life and Death

The boy saw that a bird had fallen into the river. He knew that the water was bitterly cold this time of year, and realised he needed to intervene. He and his friend, after several attempts, finally managed to pluck this poor bird out of the water. The bird was soaking wet and shivering. It was injured, so it couldn’t fly anymore. They wrapped the bird in a scarf and took it to the vet.

The vet was experienced and strict. He pushed his glasses up to the bridge of his nose and several minutes into the examination, said that something had bitten this bird before it fell into the water. Maybe a cat. The boys paid for its medicine and the examination. The vet treated the bird but said that he did everything he could and he didn’t know whether the bird would survive or not.

Money and kindheartedness have provided an opportunity to help others and save lives.  Sometimes the end is not just the end. Sometimes it can be the beginning of a new life. Helping someone, even if it is just a bird, is how we can still feel human in this world.
