Now I wanna talk more about the idea that I mentioned yesterday. So the idea came to my mind when I was walking and thinking about Tolle’s book. In the beginning I was thinking only in English, and I wouldn’t say it was interesting. Then, suddenly, I switch to Russian and found a good metaphor which I could apply to describe my attitude towards the book. Subsequently I translated what I came up with in English, and the result was better than I expected. Hence I reached the conclusion that in my native language most of the time I think in a kind of peculiar way and not only describe my thoughts with certain words but also play with them. I dress my thoughts in linguistic attire make them look puzzling and strange; I add lots of sophisticated details to things which seem weak or boring; I never use simple descriptions and all of this occurs naturally almost without effort. However, it’s not the case with English. I would say that for every situation I have only a few options to express my thoughts by using English, whereas if I do it by using Russian, I’m able to choose from an infinite amount of options.
Well, to make my language more colorful I need to work with my imagination and read not only scientific books. But on the flip side there is no need to become an excellent writer. Since I use writing predominantly for myself, the point is to be certain, avoid self-delusion, pay attention to the content rather than form and maintain consistency. I might spend years striving for a sort of perfect expression and remain in the same place. I mean it’s not important at all. I didn’t force myself to write beautifully when I started doing it in Russian. Mostly I didn’t care. In other words, it doesn’t matter how you write and even what you write. What’s matter is just to write.
