Keeping in mind some arguments of the article that I read yesterday and trying to figure out why its author despises Peterson, I came to the following conclusion. Of course, there may be as many conclusions as one can imagine, but this one seems to me quite tangible. The article is called “The Intellectual Which We Deserve” and the author often point out that Peterson’s ideas are banal, that his way of talking is half vague and people who listen to him are mesmerized by his ability to talk confidently about trivial things using lots of scientific terminology. In other words he claims that Peterson is a charlatan because of the lack of the content in his words, lack of novelty, and value, and so on. It looks as if the author of the article is saying something like this, “We intellectuals, we clever guys of all sorts and domains, we scientists, we the smartest folk in the world—why do we listen to this pseudo thinker telling us superficial things we all know from the birth? We are in a place so far out of the box and this wise guy so far off from our height that it’s unbelievably surprising that he is recognized as a true thinker at all.”
Well, obviously enough, some people who call themselves intellectuals—which category the author definitely puts himself in—can say that Peterson isn’t the wisest fellow on Earth. However, his audience mostly consists of students and people who grew up within a kind of informational fog so that for them his ability to speak, motivate, and encourage is really something divine. I’m not sure but it seems that the author of the article thinks all people are intellectuals who must respect only extraordinary, sophisticated human beings. The vast majority of people seem to be fools and if you really wanna help them you have to learn to talk about “obvious” things without contempt and teach them to do pretty basic stuff.
