Today I’m gonna write about what was going on at the speaking club. I came to the place at 18:30 and after a few minutes X showed up. I also expected Y, but he probably was busy this time. So we started from talking about ‘free well.’ X said that he tried to discuss this topic with his mates and no one was able to grasp the concept of determinism. He added that among these people was a man who teaches history and psychology at university and he also turned to be ignorant in these matters. I mentioned about my last discussion with Y upon this subject, and soon we change the theme. I offered to talk about Schopenhauer’s philosophy and asked X to give his opinion on ‘The Wisdom of Life,’ that was read by him about a month ago. He said that among other things he liked the idea of looking at life as if it were a tide, so you may go along with it or against it. If you go against it, you are a fool, and many acquaintances of X and he, himself, were in a situation where they tried to do something as hard as possible with no result, whereas other people out there got results without effort. Well, all this was reckoned to support the thesis. I asked him about the movie ‘Eddie the Eagle.’ He said he hasn’t watched it. I told him as well as I remembered about what was going on in the movie, which basically was a quite motivational story about ‘going against the tide.’ So it was only the beginning of our conversation and I would like to proceed further, but there is already no room for that. Perhaps I’ll recollect it at my speaking exercise.
