The safe future for sheep

A quick tale about great benefits of elections and democracy
even at the very edge of the abyss

Mountain sheep have rushed down to the edge of un deadly abyss.
Almost everyone inside this rampant socium knew that imminent death awaited them, but they could not overcome their herd instincts. Ahead after some three or four kilometers or only half an hour of run, they would all have been fly down head over heels into the abyss.

The president of the mountain sheep herd named Kochkorbek, of course, called on everyone to order so that all citizens would flee amicably and coherently to the edge of the abyss.

Due to the emergency situation, not only pickets, rallies, meetings were canceled, but even local elections and the election of a new president in the country of mountain sheep.
Everyone was in a hurry to jump into a deep abyss, believing that there their fulfillment of all their desires awaited them.

Nevertheless, there was a ram in this herd, who understood that the elections must be held before running forward - to a brighter future, as the communist rams said, and religious leaders spoke of a different world, where 77 beautiful sheep would expect all meek rams. And who cares about sheep there?

With great difficulty, he managed to stop the herd of sheep already at the very edge of the abyss and vote for the new leader of the mountain sheep. And then a miracle happened. He himself was offered as one of the candidates and he scored the most votes and became president of the country.

The old president only grinned at the new president and asked him: “So what are you going to do now? How will you fight the traditions and lifestyle and behavior of our people? Anyway, we have the same path forward - to a brighter future, as bequeathed us ancestors. "

“I don’t believe that there is a bright future for us and wonderful sheep for every patient and meek rams,” the new president said in response. “We will all die there, and our skulls will be smashed against sharp stones in the depths of the abyss.  That’s why, as the president and the new leader of the herd, I order to the whole herd to turn immediately aside from this deadly path".

And he began to implement his decree, furiously butting and pushing stupid rams and sheep to take them aside. It was a heroic effort and act of a true leader of sheep and nation who beated, kicked and bite and trumped own citizens trying to change this heavily dragging way.   
 But there was a very little distance to the edge of the abyss and it was more and more difficult to turn the herd in the opposite direction. And although his support group helped him, those few animals who understood that he was right, but the new president had too little time and failed to save the whole herd, which was mesmerized and set up for the last jump into the abyss, setting on slippery trek.

Only a third of all the herd obeyed him, the rest were thoroughly dusted with political and religious propaganda that their legs themselves carried them forward, only forward.

That's how the elections helped save a part of the herd of mountain sheep from a stupid and worthless death.

The moral of this fable: elections cannot be canceled in any case, even at the very edge of the abyss - on the contrary, then they, like all other institutions of democracy, can bring maximum benefit.
