5. Brother 20

9.

This way everything was decided. Martha only really regretted that she had not asked him anything about these three days. How did he outlive them? Was it the same with him as with her?

The day was extremely successful - both in mood and results. She had the necessary information in her hands. But everything did not work out with work: it was already the first of March, and the promises so far have remained promises.

But Martha did not lose her hope. On the contrary, she flew as if on wings and felt like the happiest of mortals. On the street men of all ages paid attention to her, the drivers gave way and honked after her. But the closer the clock came to six, the more nervous she became.

At twenty to six she was at home - she was sitting with Aunt Lida on the couch, trying to cheerfully talk about her affairs, but with horror she noticed that the symptoms of these three nightmarish days were returning: her heart pounded again, her temples ached, her voice did not obey, and her hands began to tremble... When the hand of the clock, having stood at the number six for a long, long time, finally moved further, Marta could no longer sit still - she jumped up, crossed the room diagonally, returned, and, clutching the battery - so reliably - stared out the window.

Well well! Gee!
It seemed to Nitram that the key was already in his hands. So that's what had to be done! That's how one should have dealt with her from the very beginning! Not to flog a fever, not to reveal your feelings, so openly and extravagantly, but quite the opposite. Accidently he was a little late; it was an accident that when he called, a man's voice was always heard in the receiver, and he reminded silent, and she apparently decided... decided... But what could she decide after all that he said and did?!
Well, it doesn't matter, that's not the point, but it was this chain of accidents that he owed to the fact that the fortress was close to surrender. Calm down! Hold your horses! Now he understood everything and knew what to do.

At 6.10 pm the phone rang, and the call echoed throughout the apartment. Martha’s heart stopped for a moment and again began to pound like mad.

- Hello! Hello! How are you?

Oh, that bewitching voice, but how calm, almost indifferent.

- Today I am so busy… We went with the guys here. Today, probably, it will be late for you?.. Hello-u? Martha!

- Yes, I guess, - she struggled to cope with her voice.
- Let's meet tomorrow, okay?
- What time?
- Six o'clock. Where we meet before, do you remember?

- Yes, of course.

- Six o’clock, - he repeated. - Well, bye, kiss you.

- And I kiss you.

For a second, a puzzled silence reigned on the other end of the line, and then, as if he was not sure that he was understood correctly, again:

- I kiss you.

- Yes, me too.

- And you too??

There was so much surprise in his voice that Martha involuntarily laughed and, saying again: "Goodbye," hung up.
