Diversity and Inclusion in Behavior Analysis

Despite the merry atmosphere the conversation is held, the topic, being discussed by a group of behavior analysists, belonging to different cultures, is extremely important; it is the topic of diversity and inclusion in behavior analyses which needs a high level of cultural competency, but as the young people admit themselves, not all of them possess the necessary amount of such knowledge and competency. Fortunately, though the young guys each of whom has his/her own opinion on the issue, have  come to the unanimous decision that this problem is worth talking about because the discussion should be focused on how to improve the competency in this field. Though they admit that they are far behind in the field of cultural competency, they agree to the point that diversity is an absolute necessity for every successful business because mainly by knowing the peculiarities of each of the cultures, gives any business a better opportunity to serve their clients, and consequently make  much more money.

I absolutely agree with the black lady that till today the black population must possess much higher quality of education and experience to take the position which the white individuals will be easily given to, “the privilege of being white,” as the black lady said. I was very much shocked by these words because in my childhood my father told me the same (we then live in the Soviet Russia). He said, “Misha, remember you are a Jew, and to be judged as a relevant one, you have to possess the knowledge and the experience which will be indisputable higher than any Russian, Belorussian, or an Ukrainian guy.

The young specialists unanimously agree that the topic of diversity and inclusion is vitally important  till nowadays because there are many people on every side who are passionate in their belief that diversity and inclusion are not the topics to be incorporated in our present life. Despite the fact that our generation lives in the multicultural world, that the time  has changed for better for many of the minorities, still, in the opinions of many white people, the white are more intellectually developed and economically safe, and that’s why they deserve a better life than, for example, African American or Latinos.

Yet, because  the attitude of the Americans concerning the situation with diversity and inclusion is different from place to place (California vs East coast or American Midwest), and the majority of the population is certain that Black Lives Matter as well as All Lives Matter, the  behavior analysists, who work  for large corporations believe that that the philosophy of inclusion is the promotion of diversity and should be realized as  justice and equality within every environment, every business, and by every nation and ethnic group, living in the US.
