Different

Once there lived a nice red Pussy Cat. And she gave birth to five little kittens.
The kittens were so cute! And all of them had red fur, so they looked very alike.
But the elder brother had green eyes, they were green as grass. The elder sister had green eyes too, though they were emerald green. The third kitten’s eyes were blue as the summer sky. It was a girl. The next was a boy with amber-yellow eyes. And the last but not the least girl had bright grey eyes.
“You all are so beautiful!” – purred Mother while licking her children.
“Yes, we are!” – laughed the children while playing with each other.
“Oh!” – suddenly cried the green-eyed sister seeing a new kitten beside Mother.
“Who’s that?” – asked the elder boy.
“It’s your youngest brother,” – answered Mother. – “My sixth kitten.”
The sixth kitten came up to his brothers and sisters, he couldn’t wait to play with them.
“Look at him!” – the blue-eyed girl was very surprised. – “He has different eyes!”
The kitten with amber-yellow eyes said: “Yeah, one of his eyes is green and the other is blue, ha-ha!”
The grey-eyed girl sniffed: “He can’t play with us. And he can’t be our brother!”
Mother wasn’t happy at all to hear that. “Sure he can! Why not?” – she asked.
“He has different eyes.” – answered her children. – “He’s not as beautiful as we are!”
“Yes, he is. He is very beautiful.” – Mother kissed her youngest son. – “He looks unusual, I agree. So he is unusually beautiful.”
Five kittens realized that therefore their brother was more beautiful than they were and they didn’t want to play with him anyway. They insisted cats mustn’t have eyes of different colors. So the sixth kitten was very sad.
Until he saw the seventh kitten whose fur was painted chocolate! “She’s different as I am!” – he thought. And he decided they could be real friends.
“Another strange one,” – said the first five kittens. – “Shouldn’t all the cats in the world have red fur like we do?”
“No!” – said Mother strictly. – “They shouldn’t and they don’t. You know nothing of this world, little kids… And now meet your father. Yes, that’s him, a big grey cat with dark stripes on his fur and unbelievably deep brown eyes.”
Father looked happily at his children and said to Mother: “Let’s give them names! As different as they are!”
