Alepohori **
The city was located on the southernmost coast of the Crimea, according to archaeological data, it was founded by Greek colonists in the 5th century BC.
Linguists derive the name of the city from the first word «alepo», which in the greeks meant Fox, the second root «horo» meant crowded, large village, town.
Another version takes the name of the city from the word «al», which can mean Apple, garden. Perhaps in the early middle ages there was a merger of terms, from which the name Alubikha was derived.
Now this city is called Alupka. In the histories of chroniclers, it appears from the 10th century. It is mentioned in his letters to the Spanish jews by the last King of the khazars, Joseph, calling this city Alubikha, a possession of the khazars from ancient times.
The city participated in many historical changes on the Peninsula. However, after the fall of Khazaria, life in it stopped for 350 years, during which time it was a simple village.
In the 14th century, the Genoese came here, reviving the significance of the settlement as a city, but it was a different story, with a different population, with different goals and objectives in a different era.
