Achakhan on the Atlan-osen **
This small town originated during the khazar rule here in the middle of the 8th century. It was located on the Kumyk plain that stretches between Sulak and Terek, where there were many ancient cities and fortresses, which were written about by arab, byzantine, persian, russian, armenian and georgian chroniclers.
These were developed and filled with artisans cities, towns and small towns of the huns and Khazar Khaganate era, which were located on the line of the caravans of the Great Silk Road. But even in the Golden Horde period, there were many such settlements on the Kumyk plain.
The Kumyk platform is characterized by a mild flat and foothill climate, which made it possible to engage in agriculture, cattle breeding, as well as to develop horse breeding, animal husbandry and sheep breeding all year round.
The main agricultural activities were wheat, barley, millet, oats, rice, cotton and silk for their own needs.
All the cities of the Kumyk platform, connected in a single military and commercial system with the advent of the khazar era, were famous for the production of weapons, since almost all the cities of this system had military garrisons.
The core of the population of the city and its villages were kumyks, dargins, lakzas, whose ethnic basis was the kipchak-oguz-bulgar conglomerate of clans and tribes.
The town is identified with the settlement at the confluence of the Atlan-ozen and Kara-ozen rivers. The area of the town was considerable for these places and was about 8 hectares.
After the collapse of Khazaria and the departure of the khazar Tudun in the early 11th century, the town gradually became empty, and artisans dispersed across the Kumyk plain.
