Khabnella on Itil **
One of the parts of the Khazarian capital in Itil. It is noted only by arab authors, whose Itil is divided not into three parts, but only into two, according to the banks of the Volga.
Ibn Ruste of the persian Isfahan, who wrote a «Book of precious necklaces» in the early 10th century, called one part of Itil Sarashen, as the name was read and translated by the interpreter of ancient arabic scripts Khvolson.
The other part, on the other side, according to Ibn-Ruste called Khabnella.
Gardizi, a native of the town of Gardizi, who wrote a history of the world «Ornament of News» by the order of Abd ar-Rashid in the middle of the 11th century after Christ, instead of Sarashin wrote Sargis instead Khabnella spoke of Khalig.
It can be seen that the two authors of the two-part Itil reports used different sources, but neither of them was in Itil.
Other authors have noted that Itil was either one-part, or, more often and at a later time, it was three-part. Perhaps at the time when Ibn Ruste wrote in the late 9th century and early 10th century, Itil was two-part, since the third part, island and central, appeared later when the Volga became shallow and the Caspian receded.
As for Gardizi, his information about the two parts of Itil was taken by him from some older source, and their names were modern to him and obtained from merchants. In his time, Itil already had an island in the middle of the Volga.
