God has gone on important matters

– We need to find a place to sleep and eat, – Kara was worried. Her companion, nine-year-old Alice, was shivering with cold and fear. They were brought into not the most pleasant neighborhood, but there was no way out – either that, or to fight off a drunken stepfather with a knife in his hand.
A 24/7 convenient store lit up across the street. Kara and Alice headed there.
– Can I get you anything? – the cashier was clearly out of sorts.
– Thank you, sir, we will just look around.
– We have no money, – Alice whispered.
– It's okay, I will think of something, – Kara quietly responded.
Blocking the view to the cooler with sandwiches, the woman slowly reached out and hid one in her jacket pocket.
Suddenly a hand roughly grabbed her by the shoulder and turned her around. The cashier's eyes were full of contempt.
– A thief! I’m not leaving it like that! I’m calling the police!
Alice started crying. Kara without any hesitation escaped from the man's rough paws, grabbed the girl by the hand and, shouting "Run!", rushed to the exit.
– Stop, bitch! You won't run away!
The cashier ran behind the counter and thrust his hand under the table.
The first shot rang out.
Alice screamed. They were already at the exit. A couple more steps and there is the street, and you can run! But Kara could not take a step. She seemed to be numb, her gaze froze. Alice pulled her hand, but the woman did not move. Feverish flashes rushed through my head: “What's going on? Come on! Hurry! We need to protect Alice no matter what! That is my purpose!"
A second shot rang out. A sharp pain pierced her back just below the ribs. The legs became wadded. The eyes were veiled.
– Kara! No, please, Kara! – the girl's voice already sounded for her as if it were coming from behind the wall.
Consciousness was fading away too fast. "Why? Why didn't I run away? Why did I just stop and wait for the shot? Why did I …” The world turned black. Consciousness has finally gone out.
– What the hell, mo-o-om?! – the gamepad crashed onto the table. – How could you shut down the computer on the most important mission?
– Will you ever start studying? All you do is sit and play your games, every single day! You are already fifteen, it is time to become responsible!
– Mo-om, a woman was killed because of you! You do not understand anything!
– That is enough for me! You take your books and get ready for tomorrow’s classes! Right now! I most certainly will sell this goddamn computer, it has completely ruined my boy.

... Alice was sitting on the ground around the store’s corner and crying. She did not know what was going to happen next. There was no one to hope for now. The only shine of light in her life went out forever.
The police and the ambulance arrived quickly. However, there was no one to arrest or save. The lifeless body of a young woman was laying on the floor. Her eyes were open and still full of tears.
