      Once, the mice were constantly terrified by a cat. They lost two or three members of their great grey family each day, as it was the routines of the cat's daily life to eat them.
      Thus, the mice gathered together to make a decision about the way that should be taken to escape the cat's claws and teeth.      
      They speculated again and again, however they could nothing to offer battle.
      Suddenly, a little mouse said:
- I'll tell you how to prevent the cat's bloody hunt. We are perishing just because we aren't notified when it draws nearer. The ringing bell must be get onto the cat's neck, thus we will know the cat is near here each time it will draw nearer us. We will get it and we'll run away.
- It would be great - said an elderly mouse - That's a mercy! However, someone should get the bell onto the cat's neck. You are so great with your mind! Just do it now! Bell the cat! We'll say "Merci"

Лев Толстой. Басня «Кот с бубенцом»

     Стало мышам плохо жить от кота. Что ни день, то двух, трёх заест. Сошлись раз мыши и стали судить, как бы им от кота спастись. Судили, судили — ничего не могли вздумать.
     Вот одна мышка и сказала:
— Я вам скажу, как нам от кота спастись. Ведь мы потому и гибнем, что не знаем, когда он к нам идёт. Надо коту на шею звонок надеть, чтобы он гремел. Тогда всякий раз, как он будет от нас близко, нам слышно станет, и мы уйдём.
— Это бы хорошо, — сказала старая мышь, — да надо кому-нибудь звонок на кота надеть. Вздумала ты хорошо, а вот навяжи-ка звонок коту на шею, тогда мы тебе спасибо скажем.
