Ana Tijoux - a music review 2021

When you feel alone in a big city, when you feel nothing you can do can change the situation, try to listen to something completely new.

Latin America has always been a rich and inspiring  region for the sense- and uniqueness- searchers in the whole world. In these countries you can listen/dance to jazz, salsa, bachata, reggaeton, electronic music, reggae, world music, rock, hip-hop, pop, soul and many other genres.

A 'layman' listener is mostly satisfied with the tracks by Ricky Martin, Shakira, Mark Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Carlos Santana, Natalia Oreiro.

Listeners who have access to more specified sets of music can come across musical miracles sometimes. This is how you can bump into tracks by Ana Tijoux, a singer/songwriter of a LatinX descent. Ana is also notable for giving several tracks of hers to the world cinema industry.

Her voice is quite pleasant, her performing manner is energetic and confident, her lyrics are mostly focused on the topics of life philosophy, social inequality, political and ecological problems and opportunities. With her bright imagery and  razor tongue her lyrical 'alter-ego' falls into fits of devastatingly critical lingering humour.

In these lyrics you may come across imagery and realia that are typical of South American countries, mysterious legends and 'opposition charm'. We can also see a great grasp of more global and threatening issues (poor health of people in various countries, lack of literacy and justice, the eternal topic of loneliness of a human being in the world).

These spicy and provocative songs are accompanied with a penchant for making high quality music videos with complicated plotlines.

This music, nearly all albums, is recommended for listening by people of all walks of life, including those who study Spanish.

Refined music connoisseurs will get the best out of this hot-tempered Chilean lady's creative stock.

This review is created by Maryna Tchianova, a freelance art critic. Songs that were used as grounds for feedback are all streaming, not downloaded.

The critic's opinion is subjective and only to a reasonable extent it may correspond with the de-facto social situation in the South of Latin America, Chile in particular.
