“Plasmodium as an auto-wave system
The spatiotemporal organization of the plasmodium is so complex that the simplest master oscillators of the plasmodium oscillations have not yet been determined. The driving forces of plasma currents in plasmodium are still relatively little studied; it is only known that spontaneously arising hydrodynamic instabilities lead to the appearance of circular or reciprocating flows. Along with fluctuations of mechanical parameters, fluctuations of chemical components are observed in the endoplasm of plasmodium, for example, membrane potential, the concentration of Ca2 +, NADH ions, ATP molecules. Thus, the plasmodium is an active medium in which auto-wave processes (self-sustaining nonlinear waves) occur, which determine the behavior of the plasmodium. If the organism is divided into pieces, each of them will restore oscillatory activity in about 10-15 minutes and will exist as an independent organism. This means that the oscillator and the contractile apparatus itself are distributed throughout the body.

Stretching the cord causes an increase in the amplitude of its oscillations, which indicates the important role of mechanical oscillations in the regulation of cell dynamics. Taking this into account, the auto-wave model of the plasmodium was developed [6]. The creators of the model note that the contractile apparatus of the cell in this case becomes part of the cellular control system - an analog of the nervous system.”
