This Jesus must die! English version
A memory from October 2019.
"Yesterday, there was a small competition on the E4J course in Almaty. All students in our group had to imagine that we were flying together in a zeppelin to somewhere. However, suddenly, it began to lose altitude due to an accident and overload. The zeppelin continued to fall even after throwing away all unnecessary things.
According to the terms of this competition, we needed to choose the role of one of the most famous people in history to justify (in English, of course) why they shouldn't be thrown overboard.
I chose the role of Jesus Christ. All the other students were girls who then chose such important historical figures as Margaret Thatcher, Genghis Khan, Churchill, Mother Teresa, and Barack Obama.
We were required to provide three to five reasons why our characters should stay on board.
Nick, our teacher for the day, warned me to be polite because he is a Christian. I nodded in agreement.
I gave my five reasons:
1. Next week, good people should crucify me on the cross, and I can't defy God's predestination.
2. I am the Messiah, and all people hope for me and await my sacrifice, which atones for the sins of mankind.
3. I am the Son of God!
4. I can curse all those who voted against my candidacy; otherwise, they are for me.
5. God is waiting for me in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Others also spoke about themselves:
- Margaret Thatcher mentioned that she is an example for women and a guarantor of economic stability for the UK.
- I don't recall what Genghis Khan said, but she probably talked about popular love and the conquest of peoples.
- Churchill discussed her importance in successfully winning WWII and opposing fascism.
- Mother Teresa spoke about charity and good deeds.
- Barack Obama mentioned her public attractiveness and Obamacare.
Afterward, we had to anonymously write down one name to decide who should be thrown out by a majority of votes.
I am not a racist; I am very liberal, and besides, I like Obama as a politician. However, I regretfully chose to exclude him from this company based on the seniority and scale of historical figures.
But in the end, the majority of votes (2) were against me.
Well, how do I live with such decision-makers now?! How do I atone for the sins of all humanity and these faceless people from the crowd?!
"But you are still immortal, the Son of God! So nothing will happen to you! Crucify him! We must completely crush him! So, like John before him, this Jesus must die!" - those good people were fooling around and shouting at me.
Wow! Damn it!
P.S. By the way, as it turned out, our young teacher Nick, a very qualified, pleasant, and cheerful person in the educational process, is from a different generation that doesn't deeply know the significance that the rock opera 'Jesus Christ Superstar' holds for music lovers from the last Soviet decades and why."
