The Battle of Leipzig
During the battle, von D;beln commanded three hunting battalions , which aimed to attack and storm one of Leipzig's gates. The three battalions approached the city in a column and they were met at the so-called customs gate by a heavy downpour. The gate was also barricaded with carriages, logs and pallets. The barricade was thrown away and the columns penetrated the street inside. The hail was heavy here too, both from troops on the street and from shooters standing in the windows of the houses on either side. At this moment von D;beln was hit by a deadly bullet. He fell along with a significant portion of other officers. The front troops of the battalion began to retreat. When a disorderly retreat began, Major Petr; stepped forward and took command. Petr; commanded the attack, after which von D;beln's battalions advanced all the way to the city's central square. [ 2 ]
