Judith ;;;;;;;;; f English, Jewish, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Spanish, French, Biblical
From the Hebrew name ;;;;;;;;; (Yehudit) meaning "Jewish woman", feminine of ;;;;;;;; (yehudi), ultimately referring to a person from the tribe of Judah. In the Old Testament Judith is one of the Hittite wives of Esau. This is also the name of the main character of the apocryphal Book of Judith. She killed Holofernes, an invading Assyrian commander, by beheading him in his sleep. As an English name it did not become common until after the Protestant Reformation, despite a handful of early examples during the Middle Ages. It was however used earlier on the European continent, being borne by several European royals, such as the 9th-century Judith of Bavaria. Behind the name

Judith Welf (ca 835-890) daughter of Konrad d'Auxerre brother of Empress Judith Welf.  Hasband Udo II Konradiner, Graf im Niederlahngau (between 825  and 830-after 879

The identity of Udo's wife is not known with certainty. According to Jackman[971], she may have been the daughter of Konrad Graf im Linz- und Argengau, whom he speculates was named Judith. King Arnulf in a charter dated 19 May 891 names "Chonradi…comitis et nepotis nostri"[972]. The speculation is that the relationship may have been through Konrad's mother who, if identified as the daughter of Graf Konrad, was the niece of King Arnulf's paternal grandmother Queen

The feminine name Jutta (pronounced "yutta") is the German form of Judith. There is also an alternative theory that it could be derived from the Germanic name Eutha, meaning "mankind, child, descendant", or from a short form of Henrietta. Jutta. Pronunciation. German: [;j;ta]
