Ele ent;o se juntou ao Reichswehr Provis;rio para a Brigada Reichswehr 31 e tornou-se seu comandante como major-general at; ser dissolvido em outubro de 1919.
Do final de abril de 1920 a agosto de 1920, ele foi comandante da Reichswehr Brigade 7 (M;nster), que emergiu da Reichswehr Brigade 31.
De 1; de maio de 1920 a 30 de setembro de 1920 foi representante por pouco tempo como comandante do distrito militar VI.
Mais tarde, ele foi premiado com o personagem de General der Artillerie.

   Hardenberg, Hans Carl von. Count. (1888-1979). Attended the monastery school, studied law in Lausanne, Washington (Georgetown) and G;ttingen. In 1936 he passed the second state law examination, in 1937 he joined the NSDAP and became SA Rottenfuhrer. From 1938 to 1942 he was employed as a government councilor in the commercial policy department of the Reich Ministry of Economics.

In 1943 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and captured by the Red Army in 1945. Hardenberg returned from Soviet captivity in 1953. From 1953 to 1957 he headed a department in the office of trade policy of the Federal Foreign Office. From 1962 von Hardenberg was Consul in Geneva and was later promoted to Undersecretary and Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations in Geneva. From 1968 to 1973 he was the permanent representative of Germany at the OECD in Paris with the rank of ambassador.
