Albanian Consulting Business

Recently I reached out to an online group of expats for help finding a professional to complete my annual tax return. I was directed to an online site. There, a person offered an honest specialist with quite adequate pay for the work, but asked 4 times more for the contact (calling it a consultation!!!)

I came to the law office with a certain question about how a certain government official should respond to requests from citizens. Some organizations have 14 or 21 days waiting periods, but not the place I need them. I wanted from the lawyer an official answer based on the official rules and was willing to pay for it.

Instead, the lawyer gave me a lecture about how people should pay for services, whether medical or legal, so I had to pay for a consultation. I tried to explain to him that I did not need a consultation, but a clear answer to a clear question that I had. But the lawyer, a very pleasant young man, interrupted me turning  on his "automatic answer" ... "when you go to the doctor, you have to ... in America you have to pay for everything ... and so on. .." He insisted on a consultation.

“Consultation” is when you pay not for what you need, but for what the “consultant” needs

In the US, someone noticed that Manhattan is full of consultants. The consulting business has eclipsed other professions. But I'm in Albania, and someone explained that here the "consulting business" usually happens over coffee time. It is not easy to find a person who would perform simple male work, for example, attaching cornices. At the same time,  cafes are full of strong young people drinking coffee and discussing things ... consulting business...
Albania is a lot of fun
